The iconic Parramatta River carves its way from the Sydney CBD all the way through the Western Suburbs. Aside from stunning Sydney Harbour, it’s one of the most famous waterways in the Greater Sydney area.

There are guided ferry tours that travel up and down the Parramatta River many times throughout the day. You can use the service as a means of transport or as a sightseeing tour. Take the ferry from Sydney Harbour and cruise majestically along the calm waters to arrive at Olympic Park, or travel on an inland tour and view all the iconic sights along the river through the Western Suburbs.
Some of Sydney’s best real estate happens to be located along the lush banks of the Parramatta River. Not only will you be able to view some of the city’s most luxurious houses, but there are parklands, nature areas, entertainment hubs, and all sorts of sights along the journey. #3 – Parramatta Park
Part of the Greater Sydney Parklands, Parramatta Park is located right on the river itself and is one of Sydney’s most popular parks for a variety of reasons. There is often an event or entertainment happening within the park grounds. It’s also a fantastic place to go cycling without worrying about traffic, jogging, exercising, or a cool way to spend a relaxing day with the family. You can even pack a picnic lunch and chill out for the afternoon in the shade of the trees.
There are playgrounds for the kids, guided tours of these historic parklands, a kiosk and restaurant, loads of walking tracks, native Australian wildlife to enjoy, and some historic sites to visit. If you enjoy photography, then Parramatta Park is a photographer’s dream.
Visit the Old Government House or check out the Dairy and Rangers Cottages. The park also has some of the most beautiful and colourful gardens in all of Sydney.
No journey along the Parramatta River would be complete without visiting stunning Parramatta Park.
#4 – Prince Alfred Square Is Your Entertainment Hub
Prince Alfred Square is located right in the heart of the Parramatta District along the banks of the Parramatta River. This is a historical site, but also one where entertainment seems to be happening all the time. Prince Alfred Square also plays host to the annual Sydney Festival and circus.
It’s one of the oldest settled areas in all of Sydney, dating way back to 1796. The first thing to be built in the area was a jail, but that site has now become the Victorian Bandstand.
Parramatta is considered one of the trendiest areas in Western Sydney and the entertainment hub of the district. Many events are held throughout the year in Prince Alfred Square. You can also check out the Riverside Theatres and the Parramatta Visitors Centre. Many restaurants and cafes are also located nearby.
