Eye Exercises – The Best Gymnastics to Improve Vision

Eyes are not only a mirror of the soul, but also “windows” that open the world to you. If you feel dry eyes, they blush, and your vision becomes blurry, start to make short pauses during work, and do exercises for the eyes.

What leads to vision problems?

Living in an era of technological progress is certainly good, but modern gadgets that surround you everywhere inexorably reduce visual acuity, provoking the development of visual defects.

In addition, the deterioration in your vision is affected by:

  1. Weakness of the eye muscles. How you see objects depends on the retina and on the fluctuations in the curvature of the lens. If you focus for a long time on one object (monitor, text of the book), the muscles that control the lens weakens, it starts to function worse.
  2. Physiological aging of the retina. Cellular organization of fiber includes a photosensitive pigment, which provides visual function. As you grow older, this pigment is destroyed and visual acuity decreases.
  3. The interaction of the eyes with artificial light. It is especially harmful to read and work at the computer when your workplace is incorrectly lit and organized.
  4. Incorrect blood circulation. The eye retina is the first organ that responds to the slightest disturbance in blood supply.
  5. Intense tension of the eyeballs. The retina worsens its activity under eye strain. This happens when you read in low light.
  6. Dry eye epithelium. When your eyes are dry, you see worse, as the purity of the transparent membranes of the eye worsens.

The most common cause of visual impairment is prolonged computer use. The eyes have to strain a lot, looking not only at the text, but also at the on-screen images: the eye constantly changes focus and overexerts. All this leads to a deficiency of rhodopsin – the visual pigment, which in turn provokes the development of myopia.

The best exercises that restore vision

Gymnastics for the eyes is a complex of manipulations aimed at improving visual acuity. Simple eyeball movements help:

  • stimulate the eye centers;
  • reduce the manifestations of astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia;
  • return a clear vision of objects both near and far.

There are many different restorative techniques. Each type of charging for the eyes is useful, but in order to achieve maximum efficiency, you must perform the exercises for a long time and systematically.

The following are the best treatment procedures:

  1. Pressure on the eyeballs. It is most effective for prolonged sitting at the computer. Put your palms on your eyes, placing the convex inner region of the palm on them. Make soft pushing movements. Pressure should not be too strong.
  2. Blinking. The most underrated exercise. When blinking, the eyes instantly relax, and also moisturize. Blink quickly with both eyes 10 times, then close them for 20 seconds. Repeat the manipulation 5 times.
  3. Focusing. Take a pencil in your hand, take it away from you at a distance of the hand and concentrate your eyes on it, do this for 30 seconds. Then focus your eyes on an object a meter away from you.
  4. Eye movements in different directions. The exercise consists in alternating glances up, down and to the sides. Take 3 of these approaches, repeating each movement for 2 minutes, and you will feel like your eyes have been refreshed.
  5. Drawing. Close your eyes and draw with your eyes the eights, triangles, squares, circles. This exercise enhances blood flow to the eyeballs and brain.

Myths related to visual impairment

Many false versions are voiced about why vision is “falling”.

Among the most interesting myths are:

  • Glasses or lenses help correct visual function. The use of these items, on the contrary, can even exacerbate the situation. Vision deteriorates, and a person has to acquire more powerful lenses.
  • Reading has a negative effect on the eyes. Harm will be caused if you read it not in the light and in the wrong environment – reading in a moving vehicle reduces visual acuity. The greatest threat to the eyes is reading electronic books.
  • Preference for plant foods reduces vision. On the contrary, you can improve your health and vision by enriching your diet with vegetables and lowering your intake of fatty meats.
  • Looking at the sun is harmful. This is true, but in part. If you admire the sunrise or sunset, nothing will become with your eyes. But look at the luminosity rising above the horizon.

Many people believe that tight shoes reduce visual acuity. This is so, but uncomfortable shoes can only harm people with already impaired vision (due to poor blood circulation).

Does eye gymnastics really improve vision?

Eye charging helps, but not always. So says the American ophthalmologist Craig Feller. He explains this by saying that exercise can make the eye muscles stronger. But the eyes are not muscles, they are only controlled by muscle fibers. Each eye has 6 muscles that provide your horizons, and one that helps to focus. The last muscle is called ciliary, and it is it that trains during charging.

Therefore, exercises can only help with minor visual defects. They are especially good for the prevention of visual disturbances, if you stare at the monitor for a long time or like to read in the dark.

We can say that vision “falls” daily. This is influenced by gadgets, and physiological aging, and poor nutrition. To maintain visual function and prevent it from fading prematurely, do eye exercises. Also enrich your diet with products containing vitamin C – it restores the eye tissues. Responsible attitude to your health now will keep your visual acuity for a long time.
